Elizabeth Hendy is 16 years old and an acting major at the UCVTS Academy for Performing Arts. She is a violin major at the Juilliard Pre-College under the tutelage of Dr. I-Hao Lee. She has previously learned from Ann Setzer, the late Dean Emeritus Stephen Clapp, Elizabeth Chang, Elizabeth Faidley, and Deborah Buck. She is also a voice minor at the Juilliard Pre-College under the tutelage of Cynthia Sanner.
Elizabeth started violin at the age of 6, piano at the age of 5, and began playing in youth orchestras at the age of 9. She enjoys the violin’s likeness to the human voice. In addition to playing violin, Elizabeth spends her time singing, unicycling, playing and teaching piano, listening to Broadway and indie music, drawing, and performing with her brothers at nursing homes, charity events, and weddings.
In past years, she has played as a soloist in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, and Dimenna Hall. She has played in past youth orchestras at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater in Lincoln Center, Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall, and Severance Hall in Cleveland, Ohio.
In 2013, Elizabeth was awarded First Place in the Junior Division of the Adelphi Chamber Orchestra Competition. In 2013 and 2014, she was a winner of the Crescent Young Artist Concerts. In addition to performing with Sinfonietta Nova, she will be performing with the Monmouth Symphony Orchestra and the New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra in 2015 as the 2014 Young Artist Concerto Competition First Place Winner.
