The Competition is open to youth under the age of 18. There is no minimum age requirement.
The Competition is open to all orchestral instruments, excluding piano.
Entries for multiple-soloists with orchestral accompaniment are accepted.
First- and Second-place winners from 2017-2018 Competition are not eligible.
Written application must be postmarked by October 12, 2018, and include a non-refundable application fee of $50.
To complete the application, a YouTube or MP4 video recording of the applicant(s) must be submitted by November 9, 2018. Please make sure that the YouTube or Dropbox link is available for viewing until the list of finalists is announced.
The recording must be submitted online by the deadline to firstname.lastname@example.org. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
The selection shall be a work for solo instrument(s) with orchestra, and shall not exceed 20 minutes in length.
An application fee is required for each participating individual. For pieces with more than one soloist: each soloist must fill out a separate form with fee but then submit their paperwork and payments together for ease of processing.
All selections must have an orchestral accompaniment (parts) available.
Up to eight (8) Finalists from the preliminary auditions will be chosen and notified via email by Friday, November 23, 2018.
Final Audition Requirements
The final audition will be in the form of a formal recital, which will be opened to the general public.
The recital will take place in a public venue and before an Audition Committee on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at 4 PM in West Windsor, New Jersey. An alternative audition date may be provided in case of inclement weather.
The audition piece must be performed from memory.
Contestants must supply their own accompanist for the recital.
Winners will be notified within two weeks of the audition.
Two winners (one string player and one non-string player) will be chosen to perform with Sinfonietta Nova on our Winter Concert program scheduled for Saturday, February 2, 2019.
The decision of the Audition Committee is final.
Winner(s) must be available to work with the conductor and rehearse with the orchestra prior to the concert. The rehearsals are held in the evenings of January 22 and January 29, 2019.
In addition to the opportunity of performing with the orchestra, a scholarship of $500 will be awarded to the first place winner(s).
Applicants’ parent/guardian shall agree to allow Sinfonietta Nova to use information about the applicants including names, personal biographies, photographs, and a recording of the concerto performance in promotional and publicity materials, web pages, Facebook posts, as well as on grant and other applications in support of the orchestra and its activities.
