2013 Season Finale Concert: “At Your Request”

Sinfonietta Nova concludes the 2012-2013 season with a special concert entitled At Your Request. To show our heartfelt appreciation and thanks to you, our loyal audience, for all of your support, we’ve put together a program from pieces that you’ve requested!

The orchestra will perform popular favorites, including Leonard Bernstein’s delightful Overture to Candide and Richard Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll, composed as a birthday present for his wife Cosima, after the birth of their son. Guest soloists will be featured in selections from Franz Lehár’s The Merry Widow, and the concert will conclude with Antonín Dvořák’s majestic Symphony No. 9, From the New World. Please join us on May 18th for what is certain to be an enjoyable evening of music!

2013 Family Concert

Celebrate the end of winter by coming out to Sinfonietta Nova’s upcoming March concert! The orchestra will be showcasing the impressive talents of the winners of our annual Youth Concerto Competition. In addition, the orchestra program will include Pachelbel’s Canon in D, Paul Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis, as well as the thematic inspiration behind Hindemith’s composition, the Overture and March from the incidental music for Turandot by Carl Maria von Weber.

In addition to music, our evening will feature the transformative paintings of New Jersey artist Diana Maye Whitener, whose work has appeared on our concert announcements.

2013 Winter Concert

Sinfonietta Nova is well into its fifth successful season as one of central New Jersey’s established regional orchestras. This brand-new year finds the group delving even further into musical masterpieces focusing on Themes and Variations. From familiar tunes to the less well known, these orchestral works are sure to delight any concertgoer.

In this second concert of the season, audiences will hear the popular Symphonic Variations by Antonin Dvořák, Peter Tchaikovsky’s charming tribute to Mozart – the Orchestral Suite No. 4 “Mozartiana”, as well as the melodic and cinematic Theme and Variations of Erich Korngold. The orchestra will also perform the perennially majestic Variations on a Shaker Melody by Aaron Copland.

Come check out the finalists from Sinfonietta Nova’s Second Annual Youth Concerto Competition. Eight finalists will be presented in recital on Sunday, January 20th at 4PM. They will be competing for the opportunity to play with Sinfonietta Nova during the orchestra’s March 9th concert. The finalists’ recital is FREE and open to the public.

2012 Season Opening Concert

Let the celebrations begin! Sinfonietta Nova is five years old this season, and in celebration of this musical landmark, we will premiere a newly commissioned piece plus feature some of the world’s most beloved themes and variations.

Our first concert of the season will include a varied collection of works by Rossini, Haydn, and Brahms. The audience also will be treated to Variations on a Korean Folk Song by John Barnes Chance. Chance was captivated by a folk song he heard while serving in the US Army in Korea in the late 1950s, and his composition won the American Bandmasters Association coveted Oswald Award.

The “surprise” of the opening concert is a birthday gift: Open Music (2012), a newly commissioned work by New Jersey composer Edgar Girtain.

Purchased tickets cannot be refunded. If you are unable to use your tickets, you may donate them as a tax-deductible contribution. You can make this tax-deductible donation anytime up to two hours before the concert by sending us an email at tickets@sinfoniettanova.org. Of course, we hope you will attend, but if you cannot, your donation will be gratefully accepted.
