Brenden Zak, began playing the violin at age 4 and has studied with Hirono Oka for the past eight years. He is a Starling Violin Scholarship recipient in the Temple Music Prep Youth Chamber Orchestra (2009-present) and recipient of the Gray Charitable Trust Scholarship in the Advanced Study Program at Settlement Music School (2011-present). Brenden has soloed with The Ocean City Pops, Ambler Symphony, The Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey, The Sinfonietta Nova, The Temple University Orchestra and The Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra. He was a member of the Temple Music Prep Honors Quartet featured on NPR’s From the Top radio program in 2012 and was the 2014 – 15 Junior Peace and Music Ambassador for the Harmony for Peace Foundation. Brenden has attended the Luzerne Music Festival where he has worked with composers: John Corigliano, Richard Danielpour and Tommie Haglund on their compositions Stomp, As Night Falls on Barjeantane, and gave the World Premier of Epilogue, Hymns to the Night, respectively. Last summer Brenden attended the Perlman Music Program and will be returning again this summer. Brenden has had masterclasses with David Kim, Michelle Kim, Elizabeth Pitcairn, Stephen Shipps and Stefan Jackiw. Alongside violin Brenden also enjoys playing soccer, video games and reading.
