Alice Huang and Seehanah Tang have been close friends and neighbors for eight years. They both started flute at the same time, and ever since have been playing duets and chamber music together.
Alice is currently a senior at Holmdel High School. She has been playing flute for five years and has been a student of Ms. Amy Tu for the past two years. Alice was accepted into the 2019 Region II Band and Orchestra, and because of her acceptance at the regional level qualified for an All-State Band audition, where she again got accepted. She is the secretary of the Holmdel High School Honors Symphonic Band and Pep Band as well as the principal flutist of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra Youth Orchestras. For flute, she has performed in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Prudential Hall at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and the Jeunesse Musicale Hall in Montreal, Canada.
In addition to flute, Alice has been playing the piano for ten years. She is a five-time first place winner and a two-time grand prize winner at the Crescendo International Music Competitions. Because of her impressive results at this competition, Alice has qualified for the International Student Exchange Program for five consecutive years, where a group of students are taken to various international and national locations to perform music with other international students. For piano, Alice has performed in Carnegie Hall, the Harris Center and Colburn School in Los Angeles, California, the Steinway Piano Gallery and the University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada, the University de Montreal in Montreal, Canada, Aloisiuskolleg and Beethoven Haus in Germany, and will be performing this summer in Japan or Austria.
Seehanah is currently a sophomore at Holmdel High School. She studies with Ms. Amy Tu and has been playing flute for five years. Last year, Seehanah was first chair in the All-Shore Symphonic Band. She is part of the Holmdel High School Honors Symphonic Band and Pep Band. She has been a member of Bravura Youth Orchestra for the past four years. During the summer of 2017, select members of the orchestra went on an international tour to Russia. They performed with the Russian National Orchestra at the Prokofiev Conservatory in Moscow, held a concert in Belgorod Philharmonic Hall, and collaborated with Belgorod Symphony Orchestra in an open air concert. She has also performed flute at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.
In addition to flute, Seehanah has been playing the piano for ten years. She has performed in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in addition to various other concert halls.
On a monthly basis, Alice and Seehanah perform piano and flute at a local senior center, and they both often accompany their church’s singing sessions with both flute and piano. Together, Alice and Seehanah frequently collaborate and find enjoyment by contributing to their community through music. They hope to continue doing so in the future.
